Bienvenido a España!

Hello friends.  As it has now been several months since any sort of xanga-type update, I see my experiences abroad as a possible opportunity to write something.  ¿Por que?  Well, as much as I love writing the same email over... and over... regarding my living situation here in Madrid, and my job situation, and my church situation... it may be nice for small updates to come just once, aquí en la xanga.

I´ve now been here for exactly 2 weeks.  Living in the Spanish-speaking country of Spain, in the city of Madrid.  Upon arriving at my new my flat, I was quite unpleasantly greeted by a disgruntled Spanish man of maybe 30, unshowered and wearing pajamas, standing in a bedroom doorway.  Hello Spain, I thought.  Hello roommate.  Walking through the small "piso" or apartment, the smell of cigarettes permeating from his bedroom was like a... bad smell.  I would later meet his mother, Marisol, who also lives in the piso with us, who resembles a ventriloquist´s dummy when she speaks... mouth hanging open, eyes in a wide stare, yelling as if she holds no control of her own voicebox.  She really terrifies me.  A lot.

That was my first night.  And as far as living goes, that is my every night.  But things did get better.  Don´t cry for me America.  Since about day 1 of Kristen´s Spanish Adventure, I have been interviewing with various English-Teaching agencies, trying to find the job with the best hours, the best pay and the best locations.  It has been no easy task... but am proud to say:  as of next Monday, I will be have a 13 hour workweek.  I am triumphant.  So you ask how I will pay the rent in March?  I´ll get back to you on that one....

Church.  Okay this is all good stuff, for real... and I´m actually convinced this may be the real reason I came to Spain at all.  The first Saturday after I arrived, I was looking through some Spain guidebooks and got to the Religion and Faiths section.  I saw a blurb about a place called OasisMadrid, a Christ-Centered Community that helps people follow Jesus.  For real, that´s what it says.  So I decided to check it out.  Worse case scenario... I don´t think there could be one.  So anyway, it turns out this church rocks, like rocks pretty hardcore if I dare use rocks hardcore in a sentence, more than once.  Great worship time, great fellowship, great leadership.  Yea, pretty great.  The church meets in a small student-union type cafe on the St. Louis Univ Madrid campus; so we all (about 30 or so) sit at small round cafe tables and praise God, and listen to people speak, or color if that´s what you are so inclined to do.  Lots of small group action, group outtings... its fun times.  So that´s kind of where I stand at the moment.  I´m in a great place, and I owe it totally to Jesus for all his secret blessings.

I have more to say, but the locutorio (internet cafe) closes in a half hour, and I have other internet-related things to take care of before I head home.  Oh yes, it is currently 11:00pm in Madrid.

Hmm how would one upload pictures to this darn xanga?

NOt all that important.  Photobucket seems so complicated, though I've never actually tried it.

Booyah, I'm back

It's already the end of September.  Yeow.

So a bit of an update.  I'm no longer thinking about going to grad school.  But more or less planning to live fairly open-endedly once I return from Spain next summer.  Yes, I will be moving to Spain on January 28, 2008.  And by moving, I mean for 4-6 months... the exact date of return is still up in the air.  I'm more excited than ever, and with the current state of my job, I wish I could go sooner!  Yes, I still hate my job.  Yes, I still look at craigslist everyday in search of a newer/better job, but alas I stay at the torturous Pinstripes in Northbrook.  I may grow some balls this week.  There's always hope.  I may quit this week.  There's always hope.  Anyone have a good job they wanna hook me up with for a few months?  I'm listening =)

I have all these ideas!  And no means of making them all happen!  I have a final interview for a barista/manager position at a new cafe in the Buena Park area.  It seems I should get the position... I hope.  It'll be kind of a hike to work everyday, at hours I'm not used to working... but it all seems so good to be true that I'll have to take it if they offer.

How would one going about getting something copyrighted or trademarked?  I have this really good idea.  Well I think its a good idea, and maybe in a couple weeks I won't think it's a good idea.. but for now, I think it's wonderful-- though I wouldn't know where to begin in making it happen.

Ok falling asleep at the computer.

Zzzzzzzz
